Event: Flooding. Much of Slovenia, including areas of Ljubljana, are already experiencing severe flooding, and more rain is expected throughout the weekend. Rivers and streams around the city are nearing overflow, and water levels are expected to rise. Slovenian Civil Protection and Police are preparing for a state of emergency.
The National Meteorological Service of Sloveniahas issued a red alert for most of Slovenia due to the storms and floods. They are forecasting dangerous weather conditions.
Due to expected severe flooding, the U.S. Embassy is closing early today Friday, August 4, 2023.
Actions to Take:
- Exercise extreme caution when traveling on roads, expect delays and detours, and do not attempt to traverse areas of standing or moving water.
- Seek secure shelter.
- If you reside in a flood-prone area, it is recommended you move valuables from your basement and below ground-level areas of your residence.
- Review the measures suggested by the Slovenian Civil Protection and Disaster Relief.
