U.S. Mission Speaker Program – December 2017

Economic Officer Don Baker introduced his home state of Arkansas to 9th graders at OŠ Polje in Ljubljana. His presentation included an overview of key facts, geography, points of interest, famous Arkansans, including former President Bill Clinton, and Arkansas’capital Little Rock. After the presentation he answered a wide range of questions, most of them were about a diplomatic life, how one becomes a diplomat, and his activities at work. Students also asked about his family and how diplomats cope with moving to different countries every few years. Since it’s December, the students were also interested in how Christmas is celebrated in the United States.
U.S. Embassy Intern Alia Flanigan, a student of international relations and French at Manhattan College, visited 3 middle schools in December – OŠ Škofja Loka – Mesto, OŠ Vide Pregarc in Ljubljana and OŠ Lovrenc na Pohorju.  She introduced students to American holiday celebrations and her home state New Jersey. At the end of each visit she answered student questions.
Marine Security Guard Sgt. Eddie Montano joined Alia Flanigan for the OŠ Lovrenc na Pohorju school visit. Sgt. Montano talked about his work and personal experiences and shared interesting stories from his time serving in missions worldwide.
