We would be happy to help you renew your U.S. passport. If you are outside of Slovenia, see our main Passport page. Instructions for renewing vary according to the condition of your current passport, when your current passport was issued and your age. Below are two sets of instructions.
Adult Passport Renewal (ages 18 and over)
The following instructions apply to you if:
- You are at least 18 years old; and
- Your most recent passport (regular, diplomatic, or official) was issued when you were 16 years of age or older; and
- Your most recent passport was issued within the last 15 years; and
- You are able to submit the passport with this application; and
- You are not requesting a change in the passport data, other than a name change due to marriage or a court order
Step 1: Assemble all documents
For your passport appointment, please prepare the following items:
- Your current or recently expired U.S. passport. We will cancel and return your existing passport during processing so that you still have proof of citizenship/identity.
- Complete the passport application form using the electronic passport wizard, print the DS-82 form, and bring it to the interview.
- One passport photo – 2”×2” (5×5 cm) against a white background and without glasses. There are several photo studios close to the Embassy that are familiar with our passport photo requirements.
- If you married after your last passport was issued and you would like your married name to be reflected in your new passport, please be prepared to submit your original marriage certificate. If the certificate is written in a language other than English or Slovene, you will need to present a certified translation.
- The fee for this passport book is $130. We accept U.S. dollars or euros, payable in cash or by credit card. (If you are also applying for a passport card, used primarily when crossing the Canadian or Mexican borders, the card for an adult is an additional $30.)
- An A5 padded envelope (podložena kuverta) with €2.66 in Slovene postage stamps (two “c” class stamps). We will mail back your passport via registered mail to your home in Slovenia or a Slovenian post office. (If you are also applying for a U.S. passport card, please provide two envelopes with postage, as the passport card will arrive 2-3 weeks after the passport book.)
Step 2: Make an Appointment
- Please make an appointment through our online calendar
Due to security procedures, we are only able to admit visitors who have business with the consular section, their minor children, or a companion to provide necessary physical assistance. We are not able to admit other visitors without prior special arrangement. If there will be someone accompanying the primary applicant, please email us and provide the name of the primary applicant, the names of anyone accompanying the primary applicant, and the date of the appointment.
