Security Alert – U.S. Embassy Slovenia (October 20, 2023)
Location: Slovenia, countrywide
Event: The Slovenian government has raised its assessment of the threat level for terrorism from low to medium (from two to three on a five-point scale), citing the heightened security situation in Europe and the Middle East. The Slovenian Interior Ministry announced plans to reintroduce border controls on Slovenia’s borders with Hungary and Croatia in light of the increased terrorist threat assessment in Europe. Italy also announced border controls on its border with Slovenia. U.S. citizens are reminded to travel with their passports when crossing international borders, especially considering the reinstatement of border controls.
We encourage U.S. citizens to review our Worldwide Caution. U.S. citizens are strongly encouraged to maintain a high level of vigilance and practice good situational awareness when traveling abroad especially during holiday festivals or public events.
